Hospital Pictures as Promised

Pictures… and a promise of more to come

Here’s a picture of Sophia we took yesterday compared to one taken of Dinah when she was tiny:

Here’s our happy family (who apparently have problems looking at the camera):

Welcome Sophia Grace

July 22nd 2010 by Dan in Family 3

Our second daughter, Sophia Grace Born, was delivered at 7:31 am. She weighed in at 6 pound 11 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long. At this point, it looks like she’ll have curly red hair like her mommy!Jen and Sophia

Any Minute . . .

July 20th 2010 by Jen in Family 1

So, a few weeks ago, I went to the OB and I was dilated to a 2. Since then I’ve been on pre-term labor medication and on pseudo-bed rest. Today, at 38 weeks pregnant, the OB said I’m a 4 or a 5. Also, both the level of amniotic fluid and Sophie’s weight are “borderline.” Sophie’s C-section *was* scheduled for next Thursday, 7/29. Now it’s scheduled for the day after tomorrow. Please pray for us!

Waking Up, Courtesy of Dinah

July 3rd 2010 by Jen in Family, Randomness 2

Dinah is walking around repeating “nuh-mah-nuh-mah” over and over again. I thought I’d share that right off the bat.

With this whole light bedrest thing that I’m on because I’d progressed a little when I went in to the OB this week, Dan has been going and getting Dinah out of her crib in the mornings and bringing her back to our bed to cuddle and play for a minute before we all get up. Don’t be fooled: it’s pretty much all playing and exploring for Dinah. She’s too busy to cuddle. And there’s usually some bodily sacrifice involved on the part of mommy and daddy. This morning, she backhanded me in the eye and then sneezed on my face before trying to launch herself off the side of the bed. It’s both a cruel and sweet way to wake up in the morning.

I made Dinah blocks!

June 25th 2010 by Jen in Knitting 2

dsc_0447_20100619_2495OK, I love these blocks!  I love the pattern and how theoretically simple they are.  But they took forever because of all of the sewing (I’m not very good at it and therefore tend to procrastinate)!  I’ve actually had the knitting done for like 3 months!  The pattern is from Easy Baby Knits by Claire Montgomerie and creates 5 – 4″ blocks of foam with knitted multi-color covers.  Because I made them with machine washable foam and yarn, I should be able throw them in the washer whenever they get gross (which should be in about 15 minutes!).  So far Dinah loves them!  Consider them a 18-month birthday present!

Happy Father’s Day!

June 22nd 2010 by Jen in Family 1

Happy Father’s Day my love!

Here are some ways that my beloved is a great father:

  • he knows every aspect of Dinah’s day, life, and personality, and if I had to be away, he wouldn’t miss a beat (though he’d be tired!)
  • he seeks her best, rather than simply what’s easiest or most convenient, including both her continuous needs and discipline
  • he works incredibly hard to entertain her and make her laugh :)
  • i know he will always do what it takes to make sure she’s provided for
  • he seeks to be a godly father, not just a good or great father, so that someday, she will submit her life to the Heavenly Father
  • he works hard to prioritize his relationship with God through Jesus Christ first, our marriage second, and our children third so that his life has a proper, biblical balance

We love you Dan and are so grateful to God for your godly leadership and love!

Dinah is one and a half!

June 21st 2010 by Jen in Family 1

Our big girl had her 18-month birthday last week! She’s growing so fast and her personality is so clear to us. We love her more and more each day. We thank the Lord for entrusting her to us!

Here are some recent pictures:

  • she walks all the time now, sometimes getting into that fast, crazy, out-of-control walk that we expect will precede running
  • she flaps her hands a lot when she walks
  • she’s still a voracious reader
  • she loves bubbles, ceiling fans, and watching her videos
  • we’ve discovered that she’s super ticklish above her knees
  • she likes to poke me in the belly button
  • she likes to play with my elbow when she’s on the changing table
  • if given the chance, she’ll snap people’s elastic waistbands (pulling out and letting go)
  • she could eat her weight in mandarin oranges
  • she’s completely, totally obsessed with socks and shoes.  it’s not unusual for her to be in either just her diaper (when it’s really hot) or in her pajamas with socks and shoes on.  and often she brings me my shoes and makes me put them on.
  • she now has two back teeth (on one side)
  • she loathes the sound of the packing tape gun with every fiber of her being and cries any time we use it
  • she loves opening and closing cabinets and drawers

We love you precious girl!

Great Story

May 19th 2010 by Jen in Randomness 1

Glory to God for this very blunt and honest conversion story! I can’t begin to tell you how encouraging it is (and it’ll take you 5 minutes to read, so make a sandwich, sit down, and enjoy!). My prayer for this man is that he would immerse himself in a Bible-believing church who would help him grow in his faith and devotion to Christ through the Word of God.

Happy Anniversary!

May 17th 2010 by Jen in Family 2

To us. That’s right, we celebrated our FIFTH anniversary a few weeks ago (5/7). Thanks to some awesome friends from church coming over to watch Dinah, Dan and I got to go to Shogun for dinner (delicious!) and though we *were* going to have an educational IMAX experience of the Hubble space telescope at the Louisville Science Center, we decided to cow-tow to our mainstream American urges and go see Iron Man 2 instead. It was thoroughly entertaining. We could tell we have a little JujuBee and that we live in a small apartment because when the first action sequence started, we were like “OH!, turn it down!. . .wait.”

On to the mushy stuff. I can’t believe we’ve been married five years! It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long, but it still feels like a major accomplishment. I definitely love Dan more than I did on that day and am so grateful for his godly leadership and love. He is sooooo patient with me as we continue to learn to be married and grow in sanctifying one another. He’s completely and totally my best friend. There are so many times when Dan, Dinah, and I are hanging out and he makes me laugh so much and I’m completely thrilled that she gets to see that. When we kiss and hug in front of her, it makes her really happy.

We decided to start some traditions for our anniversary besides going out: we’re going to watch our wedding video, look at our pictures, and talk about when we dated and got married. We don’t want to forget anything! This is ironic, because we forgot to do everything that we decided. But we’ll do it next year!
