Waking Up Dinah
January 17th 2010 by Jen in FamilyMe having to wake up Dinah in the morning doesn’t happen very often. Like most toddlers, she doesn’t usually sleep in late enough for us to have to wake her up (plus we don’t have very many morning out-of-the-house appointments). But this morning before church she was being quite the sleepyhead. With 15 minutes before we had to leave, she still hadn’t made any noise. I crept into her room, allowing the light from the bathroom to guide me. She was stirring, somewhat on her hands and knees, crouching and wriggling, rubbing her face on her blanket, before she laid down again, hoping for a few more minutes of sleepytime. I rubbed her back, hoping to lull a happy child from dreamland and wake her sweetly. She turns her tired little head over and I get a goofy grin, complete with blanket wrinkles imprinted in her cheek. I pick her up to cuddle her and gently rouse her. She moves her head between my two shoulders, hoping to find herself in bed again, but she is waking up. She blinks and looks toward the light for her daddy, she knows he must be around here somewhere. She starts smiling and jabbering. Our sweet girl is awake. Though I’d rather she get her fill of sleep, I love waking up Dinah.
