Learning how to read again

August 12th 2008 by Jen in Randomness

OK, so I haven’t really read on a regular basis in a *long* while.  This past weekend was the first time when I was actually faced with reading again (sometimes I just don’t feel like knitting–crazy, I know!).  I started reading a book that my wonderful friend Melissa Anizor (manizor to those who know her best :) ) suggested called “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child” and I’m really excited about it (mostly because I’m excited about having a baby who sleeps!).  But after the introduction and the first chapter, my attention span had vanished.  Not to be deterred, I resolved to try something a little more attention-grabbing and attention-keeping.  Fiction.  The most beloved of all reading material (to me)!  So I started a fiction book about knitters.  I was still surprised that after one or two chapters, I was ready to be done.  It’s going to take practice to get back into reading again, even easy fiction.  But I know that it’s definitely worth it!  Isn’t it crazy how by getting out of the habit of something, even something entertaining, sometimes it’s really hard to get back into it?

So funny that you mention struggling with reading. I have always been an avid ready but when I was pregnant I couldn’t concentrate to read either. It’s honestly been just in the past 2 months that I’ve had a strong desire to read again. Strange pregnancy hormones…

    ha ha…

you’ll dive into it again once you’re desperate. trust me. there’s nothing like a non-sleeping baby to make you stay up late and pour over every page!! you have time still!!

enjoy your reading! i am just now starting to find some time to sit down and read now that Zoe is settling a bit into a predictable schedule.

Hey…I used to read LIKE crazy… like two or three books a month… until sweet Averi came along, she has been here almost four months and I have barely finished one book (and that is only because I worked third shift)… anyways all this is to say enjoy reading now because once your sweet little girl gets here you will not have time!
