They’re finally here!!!
August 9th 2007 by Dan in UncategorizedFor about the past six months my cell phone’s battery has had about 7.5 minutes of talk time. Generally, I would give Jen a call on my lunch break from work as I walked back to our apartment. I would recharge my phone on my lunch because those two minutes Jen and I talked on the phone really sucked the life out of it. Then, when I got off work I would call her on my way home. Usually, I would get about halfway down the steps to our apartment and the phone would give me the low battery warning. Now I’m no expert, but I’m pretty certain that it is supposed to give you at least one or two warnings. My phone only made it about two-thirds of the way through the beep before it instantly powered off leaving my poor wife in cellular limbo. I tried and tried to get a new phone, but Sprint informed me that unless I wanted to pay for a new phone–which I obviously didn’t–I would have to wait until I had owned the phone for at least two years. Well, finally Jen and I have new cell phones. I feel all this freedom with not having to worry when my battery is going to die; because it doesn’t. I can now actually walk from the library to our apartment, talking to Jen all the while, without my phone dying. And the best part is - we bought them online, we didn’t even have to go into the store or deal with customer service people (sorry Trent and Travis, I’m sure that Verizon’s stores are different than Sprint’s).
Now I’m sure that some of you “mobile phones are a testimony to the degradation of society” people will just mock my excitement at the arrival of our new phones. To you I would say - I like my technological advancement just fine. There is nothing wrong with being able to call my grandmother, take pictures, set an alarm clock, send emails, calculate a tip, check the time in Moscow, and play Ms. Pacman all on the same device.
